    Still Not Asking for It (Trigger Warning: rape)

    I believe in ripping off the band-aid, so let’s get to the point. Someone very close to me was brutally raped. That was very, very bad but we’re getting past it and it’s becoming a bad thing that happened in the past, not a defining attribute of one’s own self. What I was not prepared for, in confiding to some friends what had happened, was the reaction I got from a few people. Someone I’ve known for years actually wanted to know if the person had been drinking (no)  or how they were dressed (t-shirt and jeans). Seriously? It made me angry that  people are still so uncomfortable with the notion that a man just took what he wanted in a violent, brutal way that surely the woman must have done something that gave him the green light to behave that way.
    I really don’t think it matters if a woman is drunk and nekkid as the day she was born, if she isn’t into sex with you, then don’t push it, and don’t rape.
    I’ve done a few pieces, this is the third in what is turning into a series.

    About the Artwork

    This is acrylic painted directly on a vintage photo and sealed under varnish.
    Each woman is wearing a pageant sash that spells out “Not Asking For It.”
    The size is 5.5 x 6.5 inches. The photo is from around 1910 – 1920s.

  • She Used Many Expensive, Holistic Treatments for Pink Eye

    This is an original painting on wood 5×8 and done in acrylics. Originally it was going to be about people that annoy me so badly they give me pink eye and an early version of this painting read, “Some people give me pink eye with their mere being….”

    Then I decided to really give her a whoppin’ case of pink eye and all these expensive holistic treatments she thinks will work. And no, I am not knocking homeopathy. I’m all for the body healing itself naturally but there’s a time and place for antibiotics too.

  • Nun with a Banana painted on a vintage children’s hymn book page

    This piece has lot going on.  I get accused of wanting the express line to Hell, but I just like nuns. This is a nun carrying a banana. Originally it was going to be like a ninja nun with a banana as a deadly weapon but then she want all peaceful and was just carrying it.

    This is an watercolor and ink artwork painted on a children’s hymn book page from 1950. It is sprayed with varnish to retain the colors.

    Bp7RE64I’ve been following Bill’s story with great interest. It’s amazing to see how what this man has been accused of can literally divide a room. He’s a brilliant guy, there’s no denying that.

    But evil?

    That remains to be seen. I will say that my personal opinion that belongs to me is no one wants to known as the woman drugged and raped by Bill. Women don’t usually gather in groups to claim they’ve been drugged and raped.

  • Why are you such a sour girl?

    Pic-12282014-006My mom had issues. Big issues. I didn’t realize this as a small child. I simply thought she was mean.
    She would do things like stomp on my crayons when I was coloring then yell at me for not smiling 10 minutes later when she came in with some snack or something to make it all better.
    She’d say, “Why are you such a sour girl?”

  • Mom and Dad’s Little Monster 3×3 acrylic on wood outsider art

    Pic-12232014-006I wanted to do a painting about a Mom and Dad and they have a total little monster. But it is THEIR monster and they are very comfortable dealing with it.
    My favorite part of this painting is how she’s just holding the leash like always. And the little monster is going ROWR.
